Zuia Piankhy appeals from the denial of his petition for a writ of federal habeas corpus by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Piankhy sought relief from a state criminal conviction claiming, inter alia, that his sixth and fourteenth amendment rights to assistance of counsel had been unconstitutionally infringed. Because we find that Piankhy did not knowingly and intelligently waive his right to counsel, we will reverse the district courts order denying the petition, and we will grant the writ.
